Do you recognise yourself in any of these points?
- your body feels stiff and/or painful after sitting for hours on end
- your back and/or neck in particular suffer from strain, stiffness or pain.
- it’s hard to focus at work - your mental health isn't always the best
- it's difficult for you to reach at least 7k steps per day
- you don't feel energetic when you're at work
- it's hard to motivate yourself to change your lifestyle, you wonder where you'd get the time to do that
What’s going on?
An office job might feel physically easy, but that’s exactly where the challenge lies.
Your body is built to move, stretch, walk, lift weights. When you spend most of your day seated, your muscles switch off, your posture weakens, your energy drops, and your focus suffers. Over time, those feelings of stiffness and low energy become your normal.
These possible effects of a sedentary lifestyle don’t show up all at once. It can take years before they manifest themselves.
The good news is that small changes, applied consistently, can reverse that direction.
You don’t need a complete life overhaul, extreme workouts or hours of free time, but a smarter approach.
Yes, modern work life makes it easy to sit too much. Yes, convenience food is everywhere. Yes, your schedule is full. That’s the environment we live in, and it won't change. No need to stop dwelling at your desk entirely, if this is where you make your living!
But you can change how you operate within this reality.
With some easy tweaks, many things improve:
- More energy during the workday
- Less stiffness and nagging pain
- Improved focus
- Better mood
- A stronger, more resilient body
Ready for change?
If you’re willing to take ownership of your health without adding stress, then join the Healthy Living for Desk Dwellers – Free Intro Webinar.
Here’s the key point we’ll explore:
A healthier version of you is built through small, repeatable steps.
Each step on its own feels manageable, and it adds to good habits you can build over time.
Each new habit is a win, and builds positive momentum.
It’s systems thinking, applied to your health. I will share a model that you can use to make sense of your lifestyle: the Cynefin model (perhaps you know this one already?).
You don’t have to stop being a Desk Dweller, but you can become a healthier, more energized one. Are you ready to take the first small step?
I’ll see you in the webinar.

Maaike - Nutrition and Strength Training Coach
Live Sensibly

About me
Hi, I'm Maaike, and I'm a desk dweller too. I work in IT as Test Consultant, and as nutrition and strength training coach (yeah, I work a lot atm). Back when I was in my early thirties, I started developing back pain because I was sitting at my desk too much with a shitty posture. I thought I was way too young for that, so I overhauled my lifestyle.
Starting strength training was a very wise choice, as the back pain went away in just a month. Turned out I loved going to the gym, and I gained kilo's of muscle mass over the next few years. I even participated in the Dutch National championships in Powerlifting! My main mission as lifestyle coach is to show people that the strong & healthy lifestyle doesn't require going to the gym 5x per week. I make things as clear and simple for my clients as possible. Only you can change your lifestyle, but I can help you make it as easy as possible.
Since I enjoy systems thinking so much in my IT job, I also use it in my lifestyle coaching job!
